Chimney Sweeping and Nest Removal

Clean chimneys are safer chimneys!

For as little as £40, we can ensure your chimney is properly swept and safe to use.

Chimtec are accredited members of NACS (The National Association of Chimney Sweeps) and have been trained to the highest standards in order to provide you with a professional, friendly, clean and tidy sweeping service based in Colchester and covering much of Essex and Suffolk. All customers are issued with a NACS Certificate of Chimney Sweeping to certify that the chimney is clean and the appliance is safe to use.

NACS, many insurance companies and all fire brigades recommend sweeping at least once a year by an accredited, professional chimney sweep. Woodburning appliances such as woodburner/logburner stoves and AGA/Rayburn cooking ranges require more frequent chimney sweeping, due to the extra carbon deposits given off during combustion.

There are many risks associated with an unswept chimney. Burning any fuel will leave carbon deposits (soot) and in some cases tar (creosote) on the inside of your chimney or flue system, if left to build up for too long this can lead to:

Cleaning, however is not the only reason for an annual visit. Our service includes a visual safety inspection of the appliance and chimney and any safety issues or necessary repairs are brought to the attention of the customer and noted on the certificate. This and any advice, is of course, free.

Bird nest removal

Bird nests, much like an unswept chimney, are a blockage and fire risk. Chimtec are properly trained and equipped for safe and tidy removal of nests. Once a nest is removed we advise having a bird guard cowl fitted as most birds will return to nest in the same place the following year.

Please note that we will not remove a live nest, it is not only unethical, but illegal to remove a nest with live birds, but feel free to contact us and we can arrange a future appointment outside of nesting season.
